karen_headshot.jpgKaren was born in San Francisco California, but the roots her heritage begin in the Lone Star State. Quilting has always been a pastime of hers, but she really dove into it after she retired from 28 years at Pacific Bell. Years of practice and countless ideas began to surface when she had the time to immerse myself with this art. Most importantly; the friends she has made have allowed her love affair with quilting to grow stronger everyday.

Karen has been teaching and lecturing since 1996. She is a nationally known quilt instructor, lecturer, author and designer of original quilts and garments. She has been sewing since she was 6 years old and enjoys the freedom of designing quilts and creating art to wear.

She encourages her students to free their creative spirit, enjoy the process and above all, have fun! Karen specialized in teaching basic and intermediate quilt making skills and creating wearable art.

Currently Karen is creating vibrant art jackets using sweatshirts as a foundation. She wrote her first book, Delightful Diva Designs, Wonderful Whimsical Wearables to share this fun technique with other like minded individuals.

Her lectures and trunk shows feature African American Quilts and Quilters, the joys of pursuing ones dreams of becoming a Quilt Diva and Inspiration and Creativity.

She was profiled in Quilting Arts Magazine, issue 5, and Expressions Magazine, October/November 2005. Her work has appeared in numbers books and magazines. She has also appeared on HGTV Simply Quilts, PBS with Kaye Wood, Kaye's Quilting Friends, Quilt Central, Janie Donaldson and Cindy Walters and American Quilts Creatively television shows.

Her background is in computer science and business management. When not sewing, she enjoys playing with her computer, new design programs and networking on-line with other quilters and designers.

Karen lives in Northern California with her husband Harold, her "Quilter's Hero" of 37 years. They have two adult sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law and beautiful granddaughter.
